Baby Present Take 2
I have another friend expecting a baby a few weeks before me, this one is easier, we know its a little girl!
Same as before I made a self-binding blanket using this tutorial at Everyday Mom: Self-Binding Blanket using the slightly adjusted measurements in metric of 112cm x 92cm for the larger piece of pink flannel and 86cm x 66cm for the smaller piece of printed cotton material.
Using the leftover fabric I made 2 burp cloths and decorated an all-in one suit, here is the present all wrapped up in a rag loop with a gift tag attached and ready to go...
The all-in one suit is decorated with a shaped ruffle at the neck and a star on the front, here is how it looks..
The burp cloths are made with a piece of the pink flannel, a piece of pink printed cotton and a piece of terry toweling on the inside for absorbency, here is an almost final photo, I forgot to take a finished shot with the top stitching on...
So there we have it, baby present take 2 completed.
Baby burp cloths tutorial
• Cut 2 pieces of material in a burp cloth shape and 1 piece of nappy towelling - I used one I had been given as a template for the burp cloth but the dimensions are 47cm x 18cm with rounded corners
• Sew all round the edge leaving a small gap on one of the straight sides
• Place the 2 pieces of material right sides together with the nappy towelling on the back
• Trim the towelling right back to the stitching and then pull the material right side out and iron the material flat on both sides to make sure its straight
• Finally top-stitch the burp cloth starting at the gap to close it up and then to make it easy to fold and to keep the towelling in place stitch down the middle of the burp cloth

Baby Present
I have a good friend in the UK expecting her first baby about 3 weeks before me and I wanted to send her a gift ready for the baby's arrival.
After doing much searching for ideas/inspiriation and then material (with the limited options available to me in Windhoek) I decided on a Baby Blanket and used the great tutorial on the Everyday Mom blog for the Self-Binding Recieving Blanket. I used 1 piece of flannel 112cm x 92cm and 1 piece of printed cotton 86cm x 66cm, I am really pleased with how it turned out.
With the extra material I had left over I made a couple of burp cloths, I used a burp cloth that my Grandma sent me as part of a set for the template to get the size and kept it simple. 1 piece of the flannel, 1 piece of the cotton and in the middle a piece of towelling nappy to make them super absorbent. Here is how they turned out;

I sewed a piece of rag material together in a loop to tie the blanket and burp cloths together to finish it off nicely and tied a gift tag on with ribbon.
So there we have it, my first handmade gift for Baby Baker and my first blog...now onto the next one!!
